AVN, the self-proclaimed “Industry Standard”, has licensed their well-known name out to a company called Etology.com. And because nobody knows who “Etology” is, they gladly run part of their operation using the name “AVN Ads” — with AVN’s full blessing. Etology markets ad space to adult websites. So, if you’re looking to buy ad space for your site, you can sign up with AVN Ads and they’ll connect you with advertisers. For their efforts, AVN Ads takes a percentage of the deal.

Sounds good, right? Sure. As long as you look over the fact that the “Industry Standard” AVN is actually supporting piracy and copyright infringement by selling their services to advertisers who buy ad space on sites that give away your product for free. Sure, they aren’t the only ones who are doing it, but someone as well-known as AVN tacitly endorsing piracy raises this problem to a whole new level.

Who is being affected by this? Well, here are a few examples complete with screen shots:

Why should you be pissed? Studios. Retailers. And all of those in between who work hard to keep food on their table and a roof over their head are the ones who lose out in the end. There are thousands of sites like these taking the money out of our pockets and bleeding the industry dry. These aren’t sites with just amateur clips. They put up full downloads of porn movies the day they come out. There are even sections of these sites dedicated to certain performers and studios. Want to download every Gangbang Girl scene from Anabolic? There’s a site for that. You want to download every scene that Gauge has done? Your wish is their command. And they do this all for free. Wow! With an offer like that, it’s no wonder these sites boast traffic of millions of hits per day. More people go to Rapidshare.com every day than Ebay, AOL, and Amazon! With that much traffic, these sites can command top dollar for advertising. Needless to say, if they had no advertising revenue, they could no longer stay in business. Instead of starving the rats who are gnawing through the hull of this sinking ship, let’s just keep fattening them until our treasure ends up at the bottom of the sea. Yes, piracy is alive and well thanks to all of those who support it.

When I contacted AVN about this, I was told to contact Etology since they are the ones running the day-to-day operations. Etology has yet to respond. However, I don’t think we can pass the buck completely to Etology here. AVN puts their name on it, they cash those checks, you can’t tell me they never once looked into where the money was coming from. And if they weren’t aware of it, they should be now.

So, if you’re an adult studio out there that’s been giving money to AVN every month for advertising, you might want to ask them why they are supporting sites that are stealing your content and killing your bottom line. Why would anyone want to go out and buy Pirates 2, when they can go to the real pirates who will give it you for free?

What’s really behind all this is greed and of course that means money. People within our industry are willing to compromise ethics in the pursuit of money. In our industry, ethics are relative. If something is unethical AND unprofitable…we won’t do it. If it’s unethical but hugely profitable…well then….we’re flexible.

Commonly known as “glory holes” in adult-entertainment circles, the break allows anonymous sexual activity between people in neighboring stalls.East Sunvalley Resort, on Main Street between Crismon and Signal Butte roads, received the citation Nov. 6 by a Maricopa County enforcement officer, county spokeswoman Julie Syrmopoulos said.

“There indeed was a violation and we are following up,” she said. “There were disruptions in the partitions.”

The business faces a hearing Dec. 16, which could result in a fine and an order to fix the holes.

The citation came nearly two years after a resident complained about the business, on Feb. 21, 2007.

East Sunvalley Resort is on a county island near east Mesa that is regulated by county government rather than city public safety and zoning agencies.

Enforcement by Maricopa County - the fourth most populous county in the United States - often is more lax than in cities because of its size and decreased staffing.

Darren Gerard, Maricopa County deputy planning director, said in an earlier interview that his agency doesn’t often patrol the community.

“Frankly, we cover such a large geographic area we are reactive in zoning enforcement,” Gerard said. “Therefore, if no one complains, we’re not going to get zoning violations open against them.”

County ordinances specifically prohibit glory holes, and the activity a glory hole might lead to violates state law - misdemeanor and felony offenses ranging from indecent exposure to public sexual indecency.

Internet search words listed in October on the East Sunvalley Resort Web site include “cruising, private, rooms, sex and toolshed.”

Those search words no longer show up on the site.

East Sunvalley Resort also sells access to a private area behind the building surrounded by a high, barbed-wire-topped wall. There, patrons have access to a swimming pool, spa, sauna and private rooms.

A men-seeking-men personal ad posted Nov. 4 on Craigslist requested a meeting in the private area at the resort.

“I’m thinkin of visiting the Spa this morning after 10 or so, don’t want to waste the trip,” the ad states. “Anyone else interested in hangin there today? 6′ 165 shaved head Hit me up!”

In October, an employee who answered the phone at East Sunvalley Resort refused to access to the owner and said answering questions wasn’t permitted. Subsequent calls to the business were unanswered.

East Sunvalley Resort is owned by KEJ & D Corporation, according to the Maricopa County Assessor. John Winston is the owner of KEJ & D Corporation, according to the Arizona Corporation Commission.

Some neighbors of East Sunvalley Resort seemed irked by the business.

William Hermerath, the 88-year-old caretaker of Valley Palms mobile home park next to the resort, said it’s unfair the resort was allowed to go unregulated for so long.

Yet, last year a zoning inspector cited him for a recently constructed wall around the park’s swimming pool because it wouldn’t keep out children, Hermerath added.

“How can they let that go on across the street, but they make me tear down my fence?” he said.

The video and book store, Adultland XXX, faced the prospect of being shut down for a year because it conducted sales on Flag Day 2006. It previously was cited for opening on Columbus Day 2005.

The township has invoked an 1893 state banking law to determine which holidays require the business to be shuttered, but the 19th century law is not specifically mentioned in the ordinance.

“The township invokes the 1893 act but does not explain why the other holidays, such as Arbor Day, designated by the General Assembly as deserving recognition, are not also ’state recognized holidays,”‘ wrote Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt for the unanimous court.

“It does not explain why the township did not bring action against Adultland for being open on Saturday afternoon, also a ’state recognized holiday’ under the 1893 act,” she said.

She noted that state courts do not close for Flag Day.

“The inescapable fact is that the General Assembly has enacted numerous statutes calling for recognition of a wide variety of days and for a variety of purposes, from closing banks to exhorting Pennsylvania’s citizenry to honor the commonwealth’s long and distinguished history,” Leavitt wrote.

Dick Harper, Pulaski Township’s solicitor, said local officials had not yet decided whether to appeal, but that he believed township supervisors will consider amending the ordinance.

The business has remained open during the appeal.

In legal briefs, attorneys for Adultland and owner Eric V. Boron, of Salem, Ohio, wrote that state-recognized holidays could be read to include such obscure events as Hubert J. Humphrey Jr. Day on May 27, Commodore John Barry Day on Sept. 13, Bird Day on March 21 and Shut-In Day, the third Sunday of October.

Boron’s attorney Joseph T. Moran said the ordinance’s vagueness violated state and federal constitutional due-process rights.

“Any time that you have a law, you have to give the citizenry notice of what’s expected so they can comply with it,” he said, calling the decision “proof the court will uphold the constitution for what many would consider an unpopular appellant.”

The country’s newest political party is also serious about a number of other issues: quashing a government proposal for a national Internet filter that would block 10,000 Web sites; instituting a new national sex education curriculum; and pushing for the legalization of gay marriage.The party — launched Thursday at Sexpo, an annual sex exhibition in Melbourne — has already gathered the required 500 members and plans to register with the electoral commission next week.

“We’re concerned about the Australian government becoming a nanny state, and about this conservative creep in politics,” party convener and Eros head Fiona Patten told The Associated Press by phone.

Patten called the federal government’s proposal for an Internet filter “the last straw.”

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy told Parliament earlier this month that his mandatory Internet filter would block 10,000 Web sites on a government blacklist of “unwanted content,” including sites showing child pornography, excessive violence, drug use or instructions in criminal or terrorist acts.

But Patten said the filter targets a far wider range of sites.

“If they were aiming to block child pornography, no problem,” she said. “But they’ve identified any adult site, things like playboy.com, a site that shows material that you can buy in a news agency or rent or buy in an adult video shop. It was an incredible shift back 30 years.”

The Australian Christian Lobby has already condemned the Sex Party.

“Pornography and prostitution do enormous damage to women and children, and the idea of mainstream political parties giving this trade seats in our nation’s parliaments … would offend the sensibilities of most Australians who believe women should be respected,” the lobby’s Managing Director Jim Wallace said in a statement.

The party, whose slogan is “We’re serious about sex,” plans to run candidates in Senate and state upper house elections.

It sounds like the first line of a bad joke, but that’s exactly what happened recently in Chicago, when porn legend Ron Jeremy and Hoosier nudist Scarlett Schmitt set foot in the TV courtroom of Judge Jeanine Pirro, ready to sue “adult entertainer” Audrey Moore for breach of contract.Schmitt, the owner of Ponderosa Sun Club — a nudist resort in Roselawn, Ind. — joined forces with Jeremy, a long-time friend, claiming Moore reneged on an oral agreement to host the annual “Nudes-A-Poppin” event at the resort this summer. Jeremy himself is a regular Nudes-A-Poppin emcee.

The case is due to air at 3 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 20) on the CW Network (WTTV 4), in the series “Judge Jeanine Pirro” (right after “Judge Karen”, “Judge Mathis” and “The People’s Court”). Pirro is a former district attorney and judge from upstate New York who made a failed run as the Republican nominee for New York State Attorney General in 2006. Her show is the latest to follow the format made popular by Judge Judy Sheindlin.

Nudes-A-Poppin, meanwhile, began at Ponderosa decades ago as a private pageant and party for club members. But it has evolved over the years into a festival drawing more than 5,000 spectators. A crew from Playboy Channel visited in July, filming the raunchy weekend for the television series “69 Sexiest Things to Do Before You Die,” and the event has been featured also by HBO’s “Real Sex,” Askmen.com and Stuff magazine among others.

The plaintiffs, Jeremy and Schmitt, said Moore cost the festival money because of promotion and advertising material that featured Moore. Ponderosa also had to deal with refunds to individuals who wanted their money back because of Moore’s no-show. (Personalized photos and autographs with the “stars” were a large part of the festival this year.)

But according to a press release, Moore said she was so nervous at the prospect of co-hosting the event with the esteemed Jeremy — as well as Blues Traveler front man John Popper — that she drank too much and missed her flight, thereby violating the accord.

Moore also claims she doesn’t owe anything because the show went on with a replacement who was in fact better known than her — porn star and Hustler model Jessica Jaymes.

Moore, though, should perhaps not sell herself short. After all, at previous Nudes-A-Poppin events she has taken home Miss Petite Nude North America 2005, Couples Nude Go-Go contest winner 2005, Miss Nude Go-Go contender 2005, Miss Nude North America contender 2005, Miss Nude North America contender 2006 and Miss Hot Legs 2007. And those victories led to camera time in features like “Buttman’s Nudes a Poppin ‘19″, the AVN award-winning “Buttman’s Nudes a Poppin ‘20″, and “Buttman’s Nudes a Poppin 21.”

Whatever the Pirro’s verdict, it is hard to imagine that Jeremy, Schmitt and Moore didn’t make up after the hearing. The dominant photo of Moore’s MySpace page — where the actress is listed as 25-year-old from Dayton, Ohio, also known as “Nikki Nine” — is a shot of her with Jeremy.

Get this: Even though it’s dirt cheap, the Magnavox MB500MG9 (built by Funai) is a damn good Blu-ray player. In fact, Consumer Reports gave it an overall score of 87 in its latest (December 08) “Best Electronics” issue, a mere one point below the top-rated Sylvania NB500SL9 Blu-ray player (probably the same player, also built by Funai). It beats the sixth-place Sony BDP-350 (which scored an 84), a superb Blu-ray player that’s performed flawlessly in our extensive testing here.

The only thing lacking in the Magnavox NB500MG9 is “BD-Live,” because it’s a Profile 1.1 unit. So what? Thus far, we’ve found that “interactive” capability to be a superfluous gimmick that requires an Internet connection, which many users aren’t willing or able to accommodate, anyway. If you can fight the Wal-Mart mob scene the day after Thanksgiving, this Magnavox Blu-ray player might be worth the trouble.

Here is a 2000 account from J. Robert Flores, vice president and senior counsel at the National Law Center for Children and Families, of the May 1998 meeting that apparently generated Holder’s memo:

The men stole cash from the business and a purse from one of the workers. Police did not disclose the amount of the losses. The employees were not injured.

One of the robbers was described as black, 20 to 24 years old and about 160 pounds with a “medium skin tone,” police said. He was wearing a dark beanie, a white T-shirt over a long-sleeved red shirt, dark pants and a white handkerchief over his nose and mouth.

“It was a little unnerving but it was over pretty fast, so I wasn’t all that bothered,” said Ram Silverhawk, a full-time night employee who was present during the first robbery. “But with the second incident, it’s of increasing concern.”

The employees who were robbed the first time were not working during the second heist.The store, which recently had its fifth anniversary, was holding a meeting Tuesday night to discuss increased security measures.

By most accounts, the volume of spam has remained at far diminished levels, though experts say they expect spam to soon bounce back, or even exceed previous levels. But the question remains: How could such a massive concentration of spam activity be hosted for so long by servers at a single U.S.-based facility, in the belly of the security and tech community in Silicon Valley?

The answer exemplifies how complex the battle against spam has become.

Like other hosting firms, McColo — which has not been charged with any crime — assigns certain Internet addresses for its clients’ computers to use. But spam often does not come directly from those computers, according to security experts who have documented the activity. Rather, firms such as McColo host a number of key Internet servers — computers that control networks of computers. Those networks are used by their respective owners to turn hundreds of thousands of compromised PCs into spam distributors, the experts said.

According to security service providers including the Atlanta-based SecureWorks, some of the largest collections of hacked PCs, known as robot networks or “botnets,” may have had their master control servers hosted at McColo. McColo officials did not respond to requests for comment.

Botnets typically are rented out to junk e-mail purveyors. The spammers then sign in remotely to control servers and use them to send billions of e-mails a day, touting everything from knock-off pharmaceuticals and designer goods to pornography and get-rich-quick scams.

But when McColo was taken offline by its Internet providers, so too were all of the botnet control servers located there, security experts said.

Joe Stewart, director of malware research for SecureWorks, said some botnets might remain disconnected. The three largest spam botnets on the Internet appear to be stranded and unable to contact more than a small number of their control servers, according to Marshal, a computer security firm in the United Kingdom that tracks bot activity.

The shutting down of McColo may have also slowed one of the most aggressive e-mail-address harvesting services, anti-spam groups said. Matthew Prince, chief executive of Unspam Technologies and founder of Project Honey Pot, a collaborative effort that gathers intelligence about the world’s largest spam networks, said that since June 2006, crawler bots hosted at McColo were responsible for more than 30 million spam messages sent to the project’s e-mail traps.

“And our spam traps constitute a tiny fraction of the e-mail addresses in the world,” Prince said. Since McColo shut down, Prince said, the project has seen a 20 percent drop in the volume of the messages received at its spam-trap e-mail addresses.

It is not clear what, if anything, federal law enforcement can do about McColo hosting spammers, or whether anyone at the company has committed any crime. A spokesman for the FBI declined to comment, as did the Secret Service.

On Saturday, McColo briefly reconnected its Web servers to a major Internet provider in Europe. Under pressure from the security community, the provider severed its relationship with McColo the next day. But that, said officials with computer security company Fireeye, may have been enough time for spammers to reclaim control of 10,000 to 15,000 of an estimated 100,000 computers infected with malicious software.

The Pittsburgh Planning Commission Tuesday rejected a proposed West End strip club because it would exasperate traffic problems and interfere with a facility next door that helps recovering alcoholics.Nearly two dozen people testified during a two-hour hearing that the 5,000-square-foot, all-nude “Club Marquise” on West Carson Street would harm their efforts to attract businesses and residents to a depressed section of the city.

“I’m thrilled. I didn’t think we would win, I thought we’d have to fight it all the way,” said Norene Beatty, 71, secretary of the West End-Elliott Citizens Council. “Hopefully, the fight is over. But if it’s not, we will go on until the very end.”

City Council still must consider the strip club proposal. Only a super-majority of seven council members voting in favor could override the commission’s unanimous decision.

That’s something even the club’s would-be operator, Patrick Risha, 26, of Belle Vernon, said would be difficult to accomplish.

“I think the planning commissioners’ negative recommendation was premature and didn’t fully understand the code,” Risha said. “We look forward to going in front of City Council, and if they reject us there, then we’ll sue.”

Risha said the proximity of the proposed strip club to the Onala Club, a facility that helps people recover from alcoholism, is a “non-issue.” He said he has nixed plans to serve alcohol at no charge.

As for the traffic and parking concerns, he said his club, which would have a capacity of 150 patrons, would have 14 parking spaces and offer valet parking.

Risha is the son of West Mifflin Area School District Superintendent Patrick A. Risha, but the younger Risha said his father has nothing to do with the strip club.

Kirk Burkley, a commission member, said the strip club would be an eyesore near the busy West End Bridge, worsen a bad traffic situation on West Carson Street and jeopardize the mission of the Onala Club.

“I believe that it would certainly be improper from a planning perspective to put this use right next to that facility,” Burkley said.

Joe Panzino, the Onala Club’s executive director, praised the commission’s decision. He said strip clubs often attract people with drug and alcohol problems.

He said his clients are trying to improve their lives and avoid reigniting their dangerous vices.

“We were very pleased with the outcome, thus far,” Panzino said. “I’m also very moved with the great number of people in the community that came forward to support our particular position. I think a lot of lives are going to be saved in the long run.”

A new US-developed Google application for the iPhone which allows users to search for information using voice-recognition has hit a stumbling block - it does not understand British accents.

The high-tech programme, which was launched this week with much fanfare, allows users to search Google for cinema times, bring up pictures and information and convert currency and measurements with one tap of the screen.

iPhones owners can download it for free, and if popular, it could be extended to other mobile phones.

A video demonstration on Google’s website shows American engineer Mike LeBeau request, and get within seconds, pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, information about the size of a giant squid, movie timetables and the Fahrenheit equivalent of 25 degrees Celsius.

But British iPhone owners who eagerly downloaded the new software to their phones were left baffled after it responded to requests with bizarre titbits of unwanted information.

When asked to search for “iPhone” the results varied wildly. A user with a Scottish accent found his phone opted to search for the term “sex” instead, and suggested a link to an adult web site. On a second attempt, the search engine looked for “sledding”.

Asked in a Kentish accent to search for “iPhone”, it came up with “my sister” and “Einstein”, while a Surrey user was offered “myspace” as well as “Einstein”.

A Yorkshireman was offered “bonfire” before managing to get “iPhone” - the only time the voice-recognition worked.

The most unusual responses were to a Welsh accent, when the device interpreted “iPhone” as “gorillas” and “kitchen sink”.

Google points out on its website that the application is “currently available only in US English”.

Roger Ellinson, 26, from Maidstone, was left disappointed by the glitch.

He said: “I’ve got a traditional Kentish accent and the thing kept on spitting back ridiculous things.

“I asked it to find my nearest pizza take away and it came back with something about volcanoes.

“Then I asked it to find my nearest pub and it gave me a link to some kind of weird dating website.

“I’ll have to try to put on my best American accent to get it to work.”

The men — ages 44, 38 and 17 — and the women — ages 27, 26 and 21 — crawled through the ceiling after midnight, having sexual encounters and drinking homemade alcohol that was found hidden in the male cell block, a police affidavit said. 

One male inmate who was not charged said the female inmates would “hang-out, play cards or have sex with some of the male inmates” in their cell block, the affidavit said. 

The inmates were able to find a security camera “blind spot” where they could remove ceiling tiles and create a passage between the cell blocks, Sheriff Terry Pierce said Tuesday. 

The inmates used a shower drain as a tool to loosen security screws and the ceiling tiles were carefully replaced so they did not appear to be disturbed, Pierce said. 

“We could not see it,” he said. 

The ceiling panels have since been secured, and Pierce said he was seeking funding to improve security at the jail, which was built in 1994 in the city about 25 miles southeast of Bloomington. 

Pierce called the inmates’ activities “embarrassing” to himself and his staff. 

“If your facility has a flaw, if you house prisoners in it, they will show you. They will find it,” he said. “We’re going to have to find a way to have a better security system.” 

Prosecutors have filed felony escape charges against the six inmates, who were awaiting trial on a variety of charges. Five of the inmates remain in the Greene County Jail, while one has been transferred to the Monroe County Jail in Bloomington. 

Pierce said the investigation is ongoing and other current or former jail inmates may be charged.

Anyone who knowingly pays illegally trafficked women for sex could face rape charges, while kerb crawlers could face prosecution for a first offence.There will also be more “naming and shaming” of kerb crawlers and new police powers to close brothels.

Buying or selling sex is legal but soliciting and pimping are not.

The changes bring the law in England and Wales more into line with Scotland, where anyone looking to pick up a prostitute faces a fine of up to £1,000.

Ms Smith said the government had considered banning paying for sex altogether but had ruled this out as there was no public support for such a move.

Instead, she said the government’s efforts would be focused on reducing demand for trafficked women, who were “effectively held as slaves”, and there would be a marketing campaign aimed at men who used prostitutes.

She told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: “My proposal is that men should think twice about paying for sex. The reason they should do that is actually the majority of women don’t want to be involved in prostitution.”

She added: “Trafficked women don’t have a choice, men do.”

Ms Smith said up to 70% of prostitutes were controlled by pimps or had been trafficked into the country and the government was working closely with the police on plans to enforce the new laws.

But Nikki Adams, of the English Collective of Prostitutes, said the government had “made up” the number of women being trafficked into the UK and most prostitution was “consenting sex”.

Brothel powers

Under the plan, the Home Office is planning to criminalise paying for sex with a woman “controlled for another person’s gain”.

Those convicted would get a fine and a criminal record.

Pleading ignorance of the circumstances under which a prostitute is working will not count as a defence.

Under the plans, people who pay a prostitute for sex knowing they have been trafficked against their will could be charged with rape.

Ms Smith will promise that kerb-crawling will be punishable the first time a person is caught doing it, rather than just persistent offenders.

The Home Office said police would get powers to close brothels.

Currently they can only shut premises associated with prostitution if anti-social behaviour or when Class A drugs are involved.

Critics of the government’s proposals say they will simply drive customers elsewhere, rather than tackling the problem.

Separate proposals will soon be published to place lapdancing clubs under the same licensing arrangements as sex shops, rather than as pubs and bars as at present.

This would allow people living nearby more chance to raise objections.

For the Conservatives, shadow home secretary Dominic Grieve said: “The government’s proposals will not protect the most vulnerable victims.

“Rather than creating new laws, the home secretary should focus on enforcing existing laws.”

Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said: “Help for the victims would be more convincing if the government hadn’t slashed the budget for human trafficking investigations last week and shut down the leading unit.

“The proposal to close brothels runs the risk of driving already vulnerable women underground and into the hands of pimps and pushers.”

The Sexual Offences Act 2003 made it illegal to buy sex from anyone aged under 18 and introduced penalties for trafficking adults and children for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

It is not illegal for someone aged over 18 to work as a prostitute in off-street premises but where there is more than one prostitute, the owner of the premises can be prosecuted for keeping a brothel.

Many of the activities associated with street prostitution, such as soliciting and kerb-crawling, are also illegal and it is against the law to advertise sexual services on cards in telephone boxes.

In December last year, Women’s Minister Harriet Harman said paying for sex should be outlawed.

The Sandy Springs solicitor has dropped prostitution-related charges against four women who were arrested after a vice detective engaged in sex with them.

Solicitor Bill Riley said such behavior calls into question a detective’s motives and makes the cases more difficult to prosecute. Moreover, Riley wanted to send a message to other detectives that such behavior crosses a line.“It goes to the officer’s credibility,” he said. “The defense always says the sex was consensual, that it wasn’t sex for hire. It’s a policy decision. We don’t want a policy that encourages officers to do that. If we don’t prosecute, the guys get the message and they tailor their work to something that can get prosecuted.”

In a few similar cases in which the officer did not engage in sex, the women were taken to court, convicted and given jail time, Riley said.

Sandy Springs launched an investigation into whether the officer, J. Mayberry, went too far by engaging in sex with the women. Mayberry would make the women stop in midact to call in reinforcements. Citing the ongoing investigation, Sandy Springs police declined to say what Mayberry’s status is with the department or when the probe will be concluded.

Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said in an earlier interview that an arrest can be made as soon as the prostitute makes an offer or agrees to have sex for money or something of value.

“Some hookers will make the john take his clothes off first because they believe a cop can’t do that, but they can,” Porter said then. “Police are trained not to put themselves in a compromising position. The deal doesn’t have to be consummated. The further the officer goes into illegal conduct, the more difficult it is to convince a jury that it was prostitution.”

In August, Mayberry was part of a Sandy Springs police investigation into spas and erotic services advertised on Craigslist, the online classified advertising service.

While new laws cracking down on sex offenders have put more people in prison, the Department of Corrections says it hasn’t gotten increased funding to provide adequate treatment. During the 2008 legislative session, the department asked for $1.27 million for treatment. The department didn’t get any new money. 

In 1996, lawmakers appropriated $410,000 for sex offender treatment. There were about 900 people incarcerated for sex offenses then. As of Aug. 15 of this year, there were nearly 1,900. 

Department spokeswoman Angie Welling says the waiting list for treatment continues to grow, meaning more offenders are not completing treatment.

SEATTLE — Could your tax dollars be paying for a sex club?

A local woman is looking for state and federal money to help finance her business where with a little music, a little dance and a private room, two people can do whatever they want.Allena Gabosch runs a private sex club called called Sex Positive Community Center. KOMO News got a sanitized tour of the facilities. But author Brian Alexander saw it in action and detailed the experience in his book, America Unzipped.

“Some people were on the bondage bed getting worked over by a dominatrix, for example,” he said.

Gabosch took KOMO News cameras into her semi-private sex room.

“It’s set back from the dance floor where there are several beds even bondage beds, another spot for people to get tied up for fun and sex,” she said.

The popular club brings in roughly $300,000 a year and makes $10,000 to $12,000 in profits. But doesn’t pay a dime in federal taxes because it’s a 501-c7, an official nonprofit organization. That also means its members can write their dues off on their taxes.

“I don’t agree with that at all, not at all,” said Rachael Wesley.

“Tax breaks for what?” Barriet Debose said.

And there’s more. Gabosch also runs a charity. It’s got a library filled with sex books, gives classes on how to have better sex and offers support groups for sexual minorities.

“She obviously found a way around the system,” said Lindsay Ulery.

Gabosch defends her tax breaks. When asked whether the government should be supporting a place like hers, she answered, “absolutely.” She says her sex center even contributes to the arts by putting on an Erotic Art Fair every year.

Tabitha Blacksmith with the Secretary of State’s office - admits the state doesn’t delve too deeply into charity applications.

“We’re an administerial organization. We don’t have the authority to investigate or regulate people’s activities,” she said.

The structure is based on the honor system, and Gabosch insists she is being honest.

Gabosch says her club isn’t making much of a profit, which means her income tax wouldn’t add up to much anyway. And, she says, it’s completely appropriate for her organization to be partially funded by tax dollars.

“Guess what? Everybody who comes here — we’re all taxpayers, too,” she said.

Gabosch says doctors, lawyers and even students are all members of the club. The oldest member is said to be 86 or 87. She considers it no different from a golf club, just a place for recreation.

NEW ORLEANS – Several strip clubs could be forced to take a hands-off approach if one lawmaker has his way. Sen. John Smith, a Republican from Leesville, introduced the legislation.

The Louisiana Family Forum, the lobbying group behind the bill, said the strip clubs bring crime. But not everyone agrees.Bourbon Street is known for its gentlemen’s clubs. Girls come from as far away as Houston to dance for money.

“An average tonight will be $1,200, and if I get someone who wants me to sit with them a long time, maybe $1,500,” said one exotic dancer known as “Charlie.”

But a proposed Louisiana bill hopes to rein in risqué behavior.

The bill calls for a 6-foot buffer between dancers and customers at all times. Violations would result in up to $500 in fines and 90 days in jail.

“Oh, that’s a good idea,” one Bourbon Street tourist said. “They don’t need to be too close.”

“Oh, that kind of legislation would hurt them,” said another man. “Us guys, we like to sit up close, because that’s where all the action is at.  Six feet away, what’s the point?”

Off-camera, dancers agreed, saying it would hurt business.

Clubs can keep their customers, at least for now. The bill was recently voted down.

Rep. Danny Martiny voted against it, saying the state law was too broad and would be difficult to impose locally.

“It’s next to impossible to draft a law that has teeth in it that’s going to apply to every situation,” he said. “And if you only draft one, the problem you run into is, in other areas of the state where they may have a completely different issue to deal with, it may not be covered by the statute.”

Sources told WDSU that the bill will be reintroduced in the future on a parish-by-parish level. If it is, Martiny said he has a suggestion.

“I think it’s got to be meaningful, be tightly drawn and strictly enforced, and that’s how you stop it,” Martiny said.

Off-camera, gentlemen’s club owners said they think the Louisiana Family Forum is trying to shut down businesses that generate tax revenue for New Orleans.

Last year, Ohio passed a similar law, resulting in a 30 to 80 percent drop in revenue for club operators.

**UPDATE** Two Britons found guilty of having sex on a Dubai beach have had an appeal against their convictions adjourned.

Michelle Palmer, 36, of Oakham, Rutland, and Vince Acors, 34, of Bromley, south-east London, have made their case at Dubai’s Court of Appeal.They are on bail after being sentenced in October to three months in prison after they were caught on 5 July and fined for being drunk in public.

Their lawyer said a judge will make a decision on the appeal next Tuesday.

Prosecutors have also appeared in court to argue that the couple’s sentences should be increased.

Champagne brunch

The pair’s lawyer, Hassan Matter, said: “I made a good appeal and submitted a good defence today. Michelle and Vince are innocent.

“The prosecution appealed in the same hearing today. They say the punishment needs to be bigger. They say it was a very small sentence.”

Palmer and Acors were found guilty of unmarried sex and public indecency at Dubai’s Court of First Instance.

As well as a prison term, they were fined 1,000 dirhams (£160; $350) and issued with deportation orders.

The pair were arrested on Jumeirah Beach hours after meeting at a champagne brunch.

Palmer was sacked from her job in Dubai as a publishing executive after her arrest. Acors was visiting the emirate on holiday.

Shortly before midnight Saturday, Jerrico Buckley, 23, of Pendleton, told police he was assaulted with a knife while interrupting a physical domestic dispute between a man and a woman near the 7-Eleven convenience store at NE Third St. and Franklin Avenue, said Sgt. Dan Ritchie.

Buckley said he was stopped at the traffic light when he witnessed the altercation and that the man had cut him on both arms as he intervened, before the man and women fled. He went so far as to give a description of the couple for police to distribute.

Buckley contacted police as he drove himself to Redmond after the alleged assault, and was treated at St. Charles Medical Center-Redmond.

But police “discovered several inconsistencies in Buckley’s account of the incident and further investigated,” Ritchie said in a news release.

They determined Buckley actually sustained his injuries while breaking a window to force entry into the Pretty Pussycat on Third Street on Saturday, Ritchie said. He’s accused of not actually entering the business, but breaking a window, reaching in and removing property.

Buckley was arrested and the property was recovered Ritchie said.

He was lodged at the Deschutes County Jail, charged with initiating a false police report and second-degree counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief.

Buckley was released from the jail later Sunday on his own recognizance, with a court date set for Dec. 4, a jail officer said.

-Digital PRground is releasing Devon : Decadence on Blu Ray.  This title is a few years old, but DP has recently began a push to re-release it’s previous titles in Blu Ray.  I predicted this a few years back, all the studios putting their back catalog on Blu Ray.  They all started shooting in HD for this very reason.  Even though standard DVD downgraded the HD footage, they knew that in a few years, an HD format would be available, and now they can re-release all those titles in HD at a higher wholesale cost.  This will put a strain on replicators, who will start pushing standard porn DVD to the bottom of the list, meaning that titles won’t be in stock as often, this will nudge consumers to buying the blu ray version instead, and standard DVD as we know it will cease to exist.  Mark it down!
