The City of Alexandria’s Planning Commission elected not to move forward on a proposal that would have regulated the opening of adult stores and threatened one existing shop with closure.

The board voted 5-1 not to initiate a proposed amendment to the city’s zoning regulations, according to deputy director of planning and zoning Barbara Ross. The measure would have required adult-oriented businesses to be more than 1,000 feet away from each other, and for such stores not to exist in Alexandria’s historic district.

Planning Commissioner John Komoroske voted in favor of the amendment, while Commissioner Eric Wagner was absent from the vote, which occurred at a meeting Thursday evening. Read more

An off-duty Baltimore police officer shot a man who stabbed him during an altercation early Thursday outside a strip club in theDundalk area, according to spokesmen for Baltimore County and city police.

Officers were called about 2 a.m. concerning a fight at Christina’s Female Revue in the 4500 block of North Point Blvd., said Cpl. Mike Hill, a spokesman for the county department. The city officer was leaving as the business closed when a man ran up to him outside the club and stabbed him with a knife in the neck and back, according to Hill. A member of the U.S. Air Force was among the victims in the mass shooting that killed six people and wounded 10 others early today when gunmen opened fire at a strip club in Juárez.

A spokesman for the Chihuahua state attorney general’s office said David Booher Montanez, 26, a member of the U.S. Air Force was among six people killed at the Amadeus strip club on Ejecito Nacional boulevard.

This afternoon, officials at Holloman Air Force Base sent out a news release that said, “Officials with the 49th Fighter Wing have confirmed the death of Staff Sgt. David Booher in Juarez, Mexico on the morning of Nov. 4.” Read more
