APOPKA, Fla. — An Apopka man accused of trying to kill his 16-year-old stepdaughter’s boyfriend made his first appearance before a judge Friday morning.

Wade Edwards appeared in an Orange County courtroom for less than three minutes Friday morning. In that short time, he was denied bond by the judge and will remain in jail.

It was revealed in court that Edwards was arrested in 1992 in Saint Croix, in the Virgin Islands, for assault and weapons charges. Read more

Saugus Man Faces Federal Charges

BOSTON — Police are still looking for girls who may have allegedly been enticed by a Saugus man.

NewsCenter 5’s Jorge Quiroga reported that the FBI said Lawrence Silipigni duped dozens of girls into performing sex acts in front of Web cams.

The Saugus father of two was in federal court in Los Angeles, facing nine counts of producing and distributing child pornography. The FBI said he exploited dozens of young girls across the country — some of whom have not yet been identified. Read more

“We’re going to do whatever we can to oppose this,” state Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan (D-Ridgewood) said at a news conference also attended by Community Board 2 Chairman Joseph Conley, CB 2 City Services Committee Chairman Patrick O’Brien, Councilman-elect Jimmy Van Bramer and Long Island City Business Development Corp. The owner of Kittens Gentlemen’s Club in Salisbury spent a night in prison for failing to pay taxes on money he took from strippers who gave customers back rubs and on Jell-O shots served at his club, the Eagle-Tribune reports.

Kevin Moury also was ordered by a federal judge to serve nine months of home confinement, pay a $400 assessment and pay the Internal Revenue Service the $87,830 it says he owes, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

AT&T Inc. renewed criticism of Google Inc.’s Voice phone service in another letter to federal regulators Wednesday that said the company blocks calls to far more than adult sex lines and expensive teleconference providers.

David Shapiro, 44, former owner of Club 57 in Elyria, was sentenced by Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge Raymond Ewers yesterday after he pleaded guilty in July to attempted child endangering.

According to a recently published paper by New York University researchers, these attacks are highly ineffective. At best, they slow downloads for a few minutes, something most users don’t even notice.

Record labels and movie studios are willing to pay serious cash to protect their content from being shared on BitTorrent and other file-sharing networks. Dallas police are looking for a serial flasher in the Lake Highlands area.

Exposure incidents in the neighborhood, believed to involve the same man, might go back to 2005, according to police.

The most recent report came on Sept. 30. It involved a man exposing himself at a home on Edgecliff Circle, a small cul-de-sac not far from the intersection of Walnut Hill Lane and Audelia Road.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A good-government group filed a complaint Wednesday with California’s campaign watchdog agency asking it to investigate two lobbyists caught up in an apparent sex scandal involving a former state assemblyman.

Common Cause’s complaint with the state Fair Political Practices Commission alleges the two women broke state lobbying laws by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with Republican Assemblyman Mike Duvall, who resigned last month. Read more
