MONROVIA — A self-proclaimed preacher who was a contestant on the reality TV show “America’s Sexiest Bachelor” has pleaded not guilty Tuesday to torturing and murdering an ex-porn actress in their Monrovia home.

Brian Lee Randone was arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court in Pasadena.

Illinois — A locally renowned amateur golfer and former Playboy pinup is scheduled to go to trial in federal court next month, accused of illegally splitting bank deposits to not report nearly $267,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.

Connie M. Kendziorek, 46, of 1015 Blaye St., Bourbonnais, was indicted July 7 by a federal grand jury in Urbana on eight counts of unlawful money structuring. A pretrial conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 5 at the U.S. District Courthouse in Urbana. Her trial is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 19.

“I’m confident when the jury hears all the evidence they’ll find her not guilty,” her defense attorney, Lawrence Beaumont, told The Daily Journal Monday.

A Swedish court ruled on Tuesday that a lay judge set to hear the next phase of the Pirate Bay trial is unsuitable for the job because he works for the Spotifydigital music service.

The Svea Court of Appeal ruled that the man’s employment as a product developer at Spotify and his ownership of stock options in the company constituted a conflict of interest for the appeal phase of the Pirate Bay trial.  Read more
