Wichita Police are looking for two suspects who robbed an adult video store Thursday morning.

A clerk at X-Citement Video in the 3900 block of W. Pawnee says the two came into the store around 3:00 in the morning wearing pantyhose on their heads.  One of them had a gun, the other had a crowbar.

They robbed the store of money and merchandise.

A customer walked into the store during the robbery, the suspects pistol whipped him and took his cell phone.

The Digital Watermarking Alliance (DWA) today announced key findings from a recently commissioned survey on piracy deterrence. The study, conducted by Interpret, aimed to determine whether the inclusion of Digital Serial Numbers (DSNs) in online content would deter illegal file sharing. The results showed that DSNs would deter illegal downloading among 33 percent of the 994-person sample and deter illegal uploading among 52 percent.

Don’t worry…this isn’t a lesson in micro economics.  No, what I’m referring to is the shrinking US economy and what impact that’s likely to have on the adult industry.

First off, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you are probably aware that unemployment in this country has been shooting up at an alarming rate.  Now if those lost jobs were all, oh I don’t know…Wall Street brokers or Televangelists, we’d probably not notice any downturn in the adult industry.  Or actually we probably would with the Televangelists.  However,  the majority of jobs lost have been blue-collar, male-dominated industries.  So our target demographic customers are losing their jobs and as a result, they are spending less and less on things like pornography.

While some still cling to the notion that “porn is recession proof”, that saying is being quickly ran out of town by most retailers.  Almost every retailer that I visit tells me how their business is down twenty-five to thirty percent versus last year, and that last year was down from the year before that!  The hardest hit areas of the store seem to be in the Rental categories, an area once beloved by retailers.  Some retailers have told me how 2008 was their first “down” year….EVER, while others tell me that every area of the store is in decline with the exception of novelties/toys.

KABUL–The Afghan government is planning curbs on Internet use, starting with blocking pornography sites, as the country’s first fiber optic cable is due to be on-line in weeks, officials said Sunday.
