A Longmont man who posed as a police “porn inspector” in hopes of nabbing photos from an adult novelty store last year was sentenced Friday to two years’ probation, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.

Andrew Libby, 34, visited the Mile High Emporium in July and tried to confiscate pornographic DVDs in the belief he was uncovering a child porn ring, his attorney told a Boulder district judge. Libby told clerks at the store he was a member of the Longmont police “age verification unit.” No such unit exists in the Longmont Police Department.

Massachusetts — An assistant clerk at the Chelsea District Court was arrested by the FBI this morning on charges that he had sex with an accused prostitute in an empty courtroom while promising to help get a charge against her dismissed.

James “Jim” Burke, 41, of Chelsea, made a brief appearance this morning before US Magistrate Judge Timothy S. Hillman, who released him on $10,000 unsecured bond and ordered him to return to federal court March 26 for a probable cause hearing. A spokeswoman for the court system said he was suspended without pay.

The Senate Judiciary Committee has sent David Ogden’s nomination for deputy attorney general to the full Senate for a vote.

The committee voted 14-5 Thursday morning to endorse Ogden for the No. 2 position at the Department of Justice. The vote came three weeks after Ogden, a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, went before the committee for his confirmation hearing. Read more

Police say 2 women bet their friend Sergey Tuganov that he couldn’t keep up with them during a 12-hour sex marathon.

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.

A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states.

“When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different,” says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School.

However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

The investigation started with an anonymous call from an employee at Mercy Walworth Medical Center in Lake Geneva, with the allegation that a nurse took pictures of a patient with her cell phone and posted them on her Facebook page.
