Adult studio using another studio’s old footage in it’s “New Releases”. I told you this happens…you want proof? Here ya go…

As some of you may know, I worked in adult retail for about 9 years before coming out to LA. My former boss and mentor used to say that if you stock adult stores long enough, you start to memorize boxcovers. Our stores moved a lot of product, so there was a lot of stocking to do. So I saw a lot of boxcovers in my time. Where am I going with all of this? Well, when I see a “New Release” with a boxcover image that looks familiar to me…my bloodhound sniffer gets to working.

So today I was looking on a distributor’s website at what New Releases came out recently. One that caught my eye was “Play With My Balls 2″ from DNA. I thought it was a funny title. So I went to Adult DVD Empire to look at the title. Now, like I said, I was a stocker at an adult store for a long time, and 2 of the images on the cover were familiar to me. I KNEW I had seen them before. So, I racked my brain trying to think of where I’d seen them. At first I thought they were from some Cheerleader movies, so I searched that…no dice. Then, it hit me. I’ve Never Done That Before from Wildlife. Lo and behold…I found these 2 titles:

I’ve Never Done That Before 13

I’ve Never Done That Before 16

and now look at the boxcover for

Play With My Balls 2

See anything familiar?  Looks like they photoshopped the words on the front of their cheerleader outfits, but it’s quite clear it’s the same girl/same scene.  Even their bloomers are identical from each picture.  Oh and if these were 2 different scenes…someone needs to sign those girls up, because even though the movies were “produced” 4 years apart…those girls don’t look like they’ve aged 1 day in those 4 years!

I’ve mentioned before on this page that the UPC codes for both DNA and FutureWorks start with 649107. I’ve told you how FutureWorks ‘New Release’ line Pandemonium used old Acid Rain footage. Now you can see that in this instance DNA is clearly using old Wildlife footage. Did you pay New Release price for that DNA title? Do you feel that that is right? Does this make you question the legitimacy of their footage? What do you think about all this? Email me and let me know!

Studios: This is unethical, and it’s just wrong. And if you do it…I will expose it. Like John McCain says “I will make it public and you will know their names.” Do business the right way and you’ve got nothing to worry about. Charging stores, that are already struggling, $15 for 5 old scenes, from 5 year old DVDs, that someone else already released, is just wholly unethical and misleading. That store puts that title on their New Release wall…then some customer gets pissed because it’s old stuff…and the store winds up holding the bag and looking like assholes because of something the studio did to make a quick buck. Stop doing shit like this!  You can try and justify it all you want, but all the excuses you can trot out don’t make it right.  Either you make New Releases sold at New Release price…or you are a comp studio.  If you are a comp studio, your prices should reflect that.  When ever distributor and website is selling your titles at “New Release” price…your movie should be a New Release.  And don’t hate on me just because I point out what you’re doing.  You know what you’re doing.  You know it’s wrong.  You know it’s unethical, and you know you’re only doing it to turn a quick buck.  That’s not on me, that’s on you.

If you are a distributor and you support things like this, you are doing your customers a disservice.  You’re often judged by the company you keep.  Like my man Spike Lee said…Do Tha Right Thing!

Emails to DNA remain unanswered.
